"Good night" says Gavin
"Garglegurgleblach" says my stomach
"Hai-ya!" says Calvin
"Get off!" says my bladder
"BLAH BLAH BLAH THINKING STUFF BLAH BLAH" says my brain
The nights of pointless insomnia are numbered. Quickly approaching are the nights of relatively productive sleeplessness. I think I'm ready for the trade-off.
The end of this pregnancy is reminding me forcefully of the end of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You know, the one that goes on and on and keeps making you think it's actually over, and then... oh wait, one more scene!
My due date is just a few days away and people are starting to outright gawk when they see me. It's actually pretty amusing. Some people even stop me to ask when I'm due or how many babies I'm carrying. They seem genuinely concerned, like I'm performing some kind of super-human feat as I waddle down the aisles at Wal Mart, my two-year old in tow.
At my last checkup I was found to be dilated to a 3, and 90% effaced. That's pretty encouraging. It means that whenever my body decides to go for it (any day now, body...) it'll be ready. I'm hoping that labor this time around will be easier, as I'm sure I've mentioned a few times on here.
I had a rough time last week, as one of the most perfect windows of timing passed me by. This week would have been pretty good too, but it's not looking likely. We're starting to talk about induction methods, but I'm hesitant to interfere. Zoey was born the day before the appointment where we were going to discuss induction so we kinda dodged the bullet on that one. This time around I'm not sure we'll be that lucky. I'm pretty sure Calvin will come late too. But how late... I'm not sure how much later my body can handle this!
All in all, I trust that the Lord has His reasons for the timing of things. I'm sure He knows what He's doing, even if, as sometimes happens, I inwardly (and foolishly) think my plan would have been a bit better. A friend of mine told me that the fact that you can't plan when your baby is coming is God's way of trying those of us who are obsessed with being organized. I think she's right!
Ah well, this baby can't stay in much longer. I'll content myself for now by pointing out that we will be welcoming a son into our home before the milk in the fridge expires. I'm grateful for my good health and look forward to the new stage life will bring. So... bring it!
Once upon a time...
